From the start of 2012, the National Trust has been working with our farming and other game managing tenants as well as a wide range of stakeholders, including local communities and users of the area, to produce the 'High Peak Moors Vision and Plan’ which creates a vision and will guide the management of the High Peak Moors in the Peak District over the next 50 years. The plan was launched in the Peak District on 20th September 2013 by Dame Helen Ghosh, Director General of the National Trust.
We used the 950+ comments from our four ideas-gathering ‘Your Moors, Your Ideas’ workshops held locally in February and March 2012 to help shape the draft Vision and Plan.
We also sought input form a wide range of experts, academics and partner organisations to see what they think about the future management of the High Peak Moors, and discussed options in detail with tenant farmers and shoots.
All of these contributions were analysed against our Guiding Principles for Land Management, which state our objectives for National Trust land in the Peak District, and against the legal obligations we have arising from the land’s status as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and a Special Protecion Area. See Natural England - Designated Areas and we produced an initial response to these suggestions before drafting the Vision and Plan.
We consulted publicly on the draft Vision and Plan in the autumn of 2012. We had a great response – over 400 people commented; thank you to everyone who contributed. We produced some general feedback to the comments that we received on the draft plan. There’s recently been a change to this feedback in relation to the use of lead shot (item 118) as we made a slight error in the original response that meant it did not adequately reflect NT policy on this issue.
We used the comments on the draft plan to inform the final High Peak moors Vision and Plan and its sister summary document Our Vision for the High Peak Moors. Paper versions of both documents can be supplied on request from email@example.com or 01433 670368.
The decision about what was included in the Vision and Plan was made by National Trust staff in the Peak District, involving regional and national staff to ensure that it is delivering National Trust objectives such as Our Land Forever For Everyone.
